MMTI sponsors include government agencies, organizations and foundations. Training venues include The ARC, the University of the District of Columbia main stage, The Takoma Theatre, and private foundations and organizations seeking production of programs and documentaries spot-lighting a cultural or educational initiative. As of January 2018, MMTI received two grants to produce the 47th Anniversary Celebration of The DC Black Repertory Company and another grant to use the Historic Lincoln Theatre, on Saturday 15th, 2018 at 7pm. MMTI students will use this event to be mentored in administrative and technical theatre.
MMTI recruits its students through the DC Department of Employment Services’ Summer and Year Round Youth Employment Program. The SYEP provides stipends to the “students” for providing the labor/support to produce the programs and/or events granted to MMTI. Instructors and independent contractors provide the technical direction to these students from concept design to implementation. These students, therefore, obtain hands-on training in our specialty areas. We registers up to 25 student twice a year.. MMTI functions year round as the SYEP is administered. Students in our programs do not provide a fee to participate.
Funding for the organization approximately has range from $50,000 to $250,000 per year.
